What can acupuncture treat?
Acupuncture and herbal medicine together have formed the basis of the healthcare system in China for the past 2000 years and as such have been used to treat a wide range of healthcare problems.
The internet is probably the best place to research whether acupuncture could be helpful for your condition. It contains a huge amount of information about what conditions acupuncture can treat, including clinial research, forums containing individuals' experiences and independent websites and organisations. In particular:
The World Health Organisation has produced a list conditions for which acupuncture has been proven to be an effective treatment.
The British Acupuncture Council has produced a series of fact sheets, which summarise the evidence base for the effectiveness of acupuncture treatment in about 60 commonly treated conditions.
It is important to remember that disease categories in Chinese Medicine don't necessarily correlate with their Western Medical counterpart and the quantity of research that has been done is tiny in comparison with Western Medicine. So if your condition is not listed by the WHO or BAcC this doesn't necessarily mean acupuncture isn't going to be helpful for you.
